the county fair

(almost) wordless wednesday
notes from maggie's farm

Let's all go to the county fair,

there's blossoms and ribbons and hope in the air.

The harvest's in, the endless bin,

and Grandpa can bring the old mare.

Our time is sweet in a county fair.

The county fair is this weekend, and I'll have entries in canned goods, and for the first time, sewing (aprons), and photography.  This is the second year I've participated (last year's entries did quite well, to my joyful surprise) and I have to say I've been looking forward to it all year.  It's such a sweet, simple pleasure to focus on a craft, do your very best, then share your interests with the other entrants.

The image, above, and the four entries, below, in Photography will be mounted, then registered on Thursday morning.  Judging takes place Thursday afternoon.  Please wish me luck!

Division: Still Life

Division: Architecture
Division: Animals

Division: Seascapes

  1. Good luck- although from the looks of your entries, I doubt you'll need it. Beautiful shots! If you don't win the Animal division for that lovely pic of the cows, I'll be very surprised.

    1. Thank you, Shelley! I have no idea what to expect, as I've never even BEEN to a photography competition. lol I caught those cows at sundown on a deserted country road, and they were as curious about me, my car, and that black thing I kept lifting towards my face as I was about them. Thanks for dropping by, too!

  2. I'm with Shelly-Love the cows and the eggs too. As always your photos draw you in as if you are actually there. If the judges are smart they will see that too. Good Luck!

    1. Thank you, friend! I had trouble selecting, since food photography was not a division and that clearly is what I do the most of, but this first competition will be a good way to learn. Thank you for dropping by, and, again, thank you for hosting the blog tomorrow!

    1. Thank you, Steph! I'm partial to that cow picture, too. It reminds me of the day I took them. That was shot on a country road in the middle of nowhere, returning from north of Waco where I took cheese classes. I was feeling peaceful and proud of my new skill. Somehow, for me anyway, this picture reflects that mood. Thanks for the luck--I'll need it!

    1. Thank you, Larissa! I'm on my way back to see if I got a ribbon in anything I entered; I'm not real hopeful because there were hundreds of entries, and my photo lab messed up my order so all I had were simply mounted 5X7's, but, I'll stop my whining and enjoy the process...lol
