Food is Community

We've been crazy busy as of late.  Just when the gardens' harvests begin to dwindle, the local food world ramps up about 200% and we've done our darndest to keep up.  Keeping up this past week hasn't included keeping up with blogging very well, so we ask your forgiveness, and invite you to share some of the fun stuff with which we've been involved.

I'm at breakfast this morning at a longtime favorite spot--Austin Java Company.  When my young daughter and I first moved to Austin, we loved to walk over to a location by our home spot, and have brunch on the weekends.  It felt rather 'urban cool' to these girls who'd never lived in a 'walking city'.  The eggs benedict, the afternoon tea, the iced coffee, their vegetarian plate, and their Spicy African Peanut Soup, hands-down my favorite soup in town, all served to make AJC our home away from home on the weekends.  Still love it.

This morning I'm indulging in a bacon, egg, goat cheese taco, a little work, a lot of people watching.  People hunched over laptops, some conversations louder than others--a little political discussion, a little morning after discussion, Wranglers mixed with Crocs mixed with business casual--a little community, this morning, all abuzz.

Michael Pollan says "Food is Community", and to this end, we've been knee deep in that lively community this morning, and this month.  Things are hopping around here!

This week, we'll be talking about

And there's still more!  Naturally, we'll be chatting about seasonal foods, and a more than a few recipes. And we'd love to hear what you're up to this busy food season, too!

November is chockful of fabulous, and we're over the moon to be a part of this vibrant food community.

  1. I am so jealous of your week! As the new kid on the block (well, sort of), I am still figuring out when all the cool foodie stuff happens, and most of the time it's after the fact. *Sigh* Oh well -- hopefully next year will be different!

    1. Hi Lauren, It really has been busy and FUN. I remember when I used to read what everyone was up to, and missing it all, myself! Maybe that's a way we can grow as an organization this year, through Austin Food Blogger Alliance. Thanks so much for dropping by!

  2. Boy, that taco looks delicious! I love this time of year as it sure is a fun food time. I have my oven back on, and even taught my husband to bake his first cookies ever. It was a lot of fun seeing his excitement and the cookies came out great. Looking forward to seeing your yummy recipes etc.

    1. I think it's so neat that you've taught your husband to bake cookies! I bet he got a real kick out of it, too. I've been thinking of you. I hope you did not sustain a lot of damage, or inconvenience during the storm? It's hard to tell through media reports just where all the damage has occurred. You, and the entire area, have been, and continue to be in our prayers.

      Thanks for dropping by!
